How we apply the universal symbols of accessibility
A
Gold rating represents establishments that not only meet the needs of
the individuals represented in this category, but provide a very user-friendly
environment and access to goods and/or services to the greatest extent
possible. When displayed in gold or by the number 1, the gold rating
allows individuals such as a person with quadriplegia, or other comparable
limitations to maximize their independence.
A
silver rating represents establishments that indicates a moderate or
reasonable level of accessibility and provides a more basic level of
access to goods and/or services. When displayed in silver or by the
number 2, the silver rating allows individuals such as a person with
paraplegia or other, comparable limitations to be reasonably independent
- although may on occasion require some assistance.
A
bronze rating represents establishments that offer a very minimal or
low level of accessibility and generally indicates minimized independence.
Often due to structural limitations such as small steps, narrow restrooms,
or steeper grades, the bronze rating indicates minimal or limited access
to goods and/or services. When displayed in bronze or by the number
1, the bronze rating allows individuals such as a person who uses a
cane, a scooter, or a walker to maintain their independence. Others
may generally require some assistance.
