Understanding the UF Rating System
Because all accessibility is not created equal, it
is important to note that, while the principal design of the UF Rating
System was formulated in accordance with ADAAG, (The ADA Accessibility
Guidelines for Accessible Buildings and Facilities) the UF Rating System
does not determine whether a facility is in full compliance with the
law, but instead denotes its level of convenience and ease-of-use by
people with varying levels of ability.
Designed to assist anyone in locating convenient travel
- even those who may be new to disability or an impairment brought on
by age or other circumstance, the UF Rating System provides people with
disabilities, as well as their families and friends, the vital and pertinent
information they seek when planning to venture out into unknown territories.
In addition to the brief outline provided for each
category, you may click on any of the individual icons to learn more
specific information about a particular rating category.
Gold - Gold rated
facilities provide a very high level of accessibility and a user-friendly
environment. When displayed in gold or by the number 1, this icon generally
represents the opportunity for everyone to maximum on their independence.
Silver - Silver
rated facilities provide a moderate level of accessibility. When displayed
in silver or by the number 2, the silver rating generally represents a
reasonable level of independence. Due to the potential for minor barriers
that may still exist, individuals may require some assistance in certain
areas.
Bronze - Bronze
rated facilities provide a low level of accessibility. When displayed
in bronze or by the number 3 the bronze rating indicates minimal or limited
access to goods or services. Generally due to certain structural limitations
or a higher than normal number of barriers present within the facility
independence is generally compromised.
