Having a disability, whether
short term or permanent, does not stop people from wanting to travel
for pleasure or business. Accessible travel - travel by people with
disabilities - is often a daunting adventure which brings challenges
other travelers do not face.
While travel opportunities for people with disabilities
have grown dramatically in recent years, and travel by those now being
referred to as the "Maturing Market" on the rise, locating
appropriate accommodations continues to be a challenge.
Today locating appropriate accommodations for someone
who has diminished hearing, impaired vision, or who may be wheelchair
dependent, can be an arduous task, which is often compounded by the
problems associated with the misuse of the international symbol of accessibility.
The UF Travel Guide is an online publication brought
about by the need to provide the important travel information travelers
with disabilities, elders, and their families require -- including accessible
transportation, lodging accommodations, and dining facilities.
Utilizing our unique rating system, as explained under
the UF Rating System, trained professionals
perform in-depth barrier free appraisals and apply this easy to use
color rating system. Facilities that reflect an accessible, "user-friendly"
environment are thereby awarded the "UF Seal of Approval."
A registered trademark designed to correct the problems
brought on by the misuse of the international symbol of access, the
"UF Seal of Approval" offers a simple solution.
